Benue: Insecurity worsens as suspicious Mandini Attack 3 Communities, K! Ll 80

At least 80 people were killed in coordinated attacks of the early morning on Friday by suspicious pastors in different communities of Sankera in the state of Benue, in Nigeria.

The attacks, which took place in the areas of the local government of Ukum, Logo and Katsina-Ala (LGA), left the residents with shock and fear.

The shepherds, according to the armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the communities around 6 in the morning to Gbagir, Tyuluv and Prof Daniel Saror Village, Mbatyu, among others where they massacred and killed their victims.

The attackers, who also stormed Tse-Ankon, Mbayam Council Ward in the LGA logo in their number, killed 10 people and razed several houses, has also been collected.

It was also said that the shepherds had attacked and killed people in a Tongov in Katsina Ala LGA.

In another accident, six travelers were killed when they met the attackers on Thursday evening as they went to Afia.

Residents expressed indignation and frustration for attacks, questioning the reason why security agencies did not act despite previous warnings.

A resident who wanted to remain anonymous said: “The security agencies were informed of the imminent attack, but nothing happened. No security went there and remained until they finally launched their attack on the affected communities.

“They started entering the state on Sunday with Bajaj’s motorcycles with AK 47. They camp in Chito and when they rained on Thursday, they pursued the residents outside their homes and went to sleep.

“They were moving openly with AK 47 Riffles, but no security has been observed in the area despite the alert issued to inform the government and the security that there could be an imminent attack”.

Senator Emmanuel Udende who spoke through his media helper Jerry Uorgaem expressed concern about attacks, asking for immediate action to prevent further bloodshed.

The commissioner for information in the state of Benue who is also an indigenous of Ukum complained of the attack, saying that he was not caused.

He said that the government of Benue’s state sent security to the affected areas to maintain peace and the relationship of the victims in the attack will be communicated once received.

A notice that was a tendency on social media had been issued a few days ago to the Nigerian security forces, including military, police and NScdc, to take note of it and act quickly to prevent further attacks on Benue’s communities with a specific mention of UKUM.

Following the attack, the communities of Benue affected are mourning, with many questioning the government’s ability to protect its citizens.

A resident, Hilary Tor, complained: “How can an innocent person sit at home without looking for problems, and then a group of Fulani comes and kill them? Where can we go? What is the reason for these murders?”

The situation remains tense, with many who ask urgent actions to bring the authors to justice and restore peace to the affected communities.

When contacted, the police spokesman Benue State Police Command Csp Catherine Sewuese Anne confirmed the attack and said that the men of the police forces were drawn up to the communities affected to repress the situation.

He said that the details of the level of the victims will be made available once the report sent to the area will be sent.
