Ayo Adebanjo: the family announces the burial date for the leader of the late Afeniferous

The head of the chief Ayo Adbanjo, the deceased leader of the socio-cultural group of Pan-Yoruba, Afenifere, announced the funeral agreements for the deceased elderly statesman on Thursday.

Remember that the revered nationalist died on February 14, 2025 at the age of 96 in his Lekki residence in Lagos.

The family, in a declaration jointly signed by Mrs. AyouUunde Atteh and Mr. OBAFEMI AYO-ADABANJO, two of the children of Adebanjo, said that the funeral service/church would remain on May 3 at the Anglican Church of St Phillips, Isanya Ogbo, near ijebu Ode, Ogun,

He added that the thanksgiving service will be held on May 4 in the same location.

According to the family, the day of the tributes/service of songs will be held on April 30 at 14:00 at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The family added that the wake will be held on May 2nd at 16.00 in the country house of PA Ayo Adebanjo, Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun.

By expressing deep gratitude for the support and prayers received from his disappearance, the family said that he welcomed the supporters to participate in the celebration of the life of their patriarch.

“The family invites friends, colleagues, political collaborators and public in general to join them in paying the final aspects to a man whose courage, integrity and unshakable conviction in justice have left an indelible mark on the political history of Nigeria,” said the family.

According to the family, “the chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, widely known as the chief Ayo Adebanjo or Pa Ayo Adebanjo, was born on April 10, 1928, in the state of Ogun, in the southwestern region of Nigeria.

“He was born in the family of Joel Adebanjo Adeadairo and Salamotu Odubanke.”

He said that the chief Adebanjo began his public journey as a journalist before proceeding to the United Kingdom to study the law.

“His political journey began in 1943 as a member of the Zikista movement, before joining the youth wing of the action group in 1951, where he became political disciple of the deceased chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“During his life, the head of the Adbanjo remained a fearless supporter of democratic governance, true federalism and Yoruba’s interests within the Nigerian Federation.

“It will be remembered as a titan of the Nigerian nationalist struggle and a voice of principle in the country’s post-independence political evolution,” said the family.
