PDP moves to reclaim the mandate from Gov Oborevwori, another defect

The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) has directed its national legal advisor to begin a legal process aimed at recording its mandate from the Governor of the State Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori, who joined all Progressive Congress (APC) last week.

The party will also work to reclaim the mandate of members of parliament and other elected officials who switched to APC at the Delta State.

Acting National Chairperson of the Party, Umar Damagum, made an announcement during the press direction after the National Work Committee (NWC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Damagum said the NWC had also mandated the South-South Zonal Guard Committee led by Emmanuel Ogidi to take control of the party structure in Delta, while waiting for the constitution of the State Guard Committee.

Oborevwori, along with former Governor Ifeiri Okowa and several PDP officials were elected in Delta, announced their buyers on APC on April 25.

Damagum said: “We have instructed the Zonal Guard Committee to take over Delta after dissolving all the existing structures, because most of their members have defected.

“The guard committee will soon be formed.

“We have also directed national law advisers to start legal steps to restore our mandate.

“According to the Election Law, the defective elected officials automatically release the office they occupy.”

He also announced that the NWC had approved the Zonal Congress for the southwest, northeast and southeast regions.

He said the guard committee had been approved for the upcoming North-Central election.

The chairman revealed that the NWC negotiated in a number of internal party problems and adopted the main recommendations made by the PDP Governor Forum at this new meeting in Ibadan, the state of Oyo.
