‘Boko Haram jumped towards us as we did not expect’, the Minister of Defense, Badaru, confessed

In the midst of increasing insecurity and new attacks in Borno and Benue countries, by Boko Haram Terror Group, the Minister of Defense, Mohammed Badaru has made a surprising confession.

Speaking on Wednesday during the ministerial briefing in Abuja, Badaru highlighted the challenges faced in dealing with insecurity that had infected the country for years.

According to him, terrorists and bandits have informants in the population, allowing them to launch an unexpected surprise attack on security institutions.

He also stated that the challenge lies in the nature of the conflict that is not conventional.

“This war is not a conventional war. This is like a guerrilla war. They watch us, they have informants around us. They help the people we are trying to protect. And they give them information. And they jump to us as we don’t expect.”

Responding to the accusation that terrorists defeated the military, the minister rejected such claims, stating: “Yesterday, the House of the Assembly said that the terrorists had better weapons than us. That was completely untrue. We have a much more sophisticated weapon and we have a much more sophisticated drone.”

As part of an effort to build military independence, Badaru revealed that 10 out of 53 companies under the defense industry complex had begun to produce drones, aircraft parts, helmets, and protective vests.

“We are also trying to revive the Ajuokuta Steel section to support the production of military hardware,” he said, adding that 20 companies were expected to operate fully at the end of 2025, with exports starting in 2026.

Minister’s statement emerged after a new violence which claimed the lives of a military captain and local APC leader in a separate incident in Borno and Benue.

On the high profile target, Badaru revealed that Kingpin Terrorist Bello Turji is currently underway due to ongoing military pressure. He also confirmed the murder of several famous terrorist leaders including Maza Barume Madaro, Kachalla Dati, Kachalla Dogo Kwaden, Chair of Hanazuma, and others.

“Recently, there has been a new encouragement for all our operations throughout the country, translated into praiseworthy achievements, especially in the northeast. Although there are recent despair of terrorists, troops have responded excessively and changed the destroying blows throughout theater,” he said.

He assured Nigeria about sustainable military commitment and strengthened intelligence operations to prevent future attacks and restore national peace.
