Kano Pillars and Sporting Lagos drew 1-1 in an entertaining encounter on matchday seven of the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League in Kano, with both teams settling for a point after a close battle.
Sports247 reports that the result means that Mai Su Gida has now followed up its previous goalless draw against Enyimba with another stalemate, while Sporting Lagos also recorded its second consecutive draw after a barren 0-0 draw against Ikorodu City in the Lagos Derby.
Kano Pillars began the match looking to take advantage of their home advantage, but Sporting Lagos remained organized and disciplined as both teams looked for an opening.
The breakthrough finally came in first-half injury time when Valentine Ugwu put Sporting Lagos ahead in the 45+2 minute, giving the visitors a valuable lead heading into the break.
Kano Pillars responded strongly after the restart and quickly found a way back into the competition.
The hosts got their reward in the 48th minute when Abdullahi Musa equalized for Kano Pillars, finishing off a move created by veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali, whose assist once again underlined his influence in the Pillars midfield.
With the score tied 1-1, both teams looked for a decisive second goal, but neither could find the goal for the rest of the match.
Kano Pillars will be encouraged by their ability to recover from the deficit, while Sporting Lagos will also be content to secure a point away from home after losing the lead.
For Mai Su Gida, the draw represents a new opportunity gained, but also two more points lost from a winning position, as they continue their campaign in search of consistency.
Meanwhile, Sporting Lagos remain unbeaten in their recent matches but will look to convert their promising performances into maximum points as the season progresses.
The 1-1 result leaves both teams with plenty to build on, particularly in attack, as they prepare for their next assignments in the NPFL EuroMatch.
As the league campaign continues to gain momentum, Kano Pillars and Sporting Lagos will now turn their attention to their upcoming matches, hoping to turn future draws into wins.
