Agbakoba proposed a new government model, said Western democracy no longer worked in Nigeria

A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has recommended a new government model for Nigeria because Western democracy no longer works in the country.

Agbakoba who made a call on Friday when appearing as a guest on the morning television program, said the liberal democratic model borrowed from the Western world had failed in Nigeria.

However, he suggested what he called a congestional democracy in which institutional democracy was built around the institution.

“I think the basic problem to allow me to provide a contextual and small conceptual background about where we are and the problem, I think the basic problem is that the Liberal Democrat Western model has failed,” he said.

Continuing, Agbakoba said:

“Nigeria, as you know, we have worked on the new constitutional process for 25 years, since 2000, and there is no.

“I think this is time to rethink and rearrange our democratic experience. This is unsuccessful, unsuccessive, it divides. This is full of battle. This is a winner-take-all-all. People want power; no one wants to be in opposition.

“You see the opposition, people all jump to APC. The process is unsuccessful. So personally, I will encourage something homemade, autonomous, what I call constrained democracy, where we build our institutional democracy around our institutions.

“I am a very strong person in finding a role for traditional rulers. King Charles is the Constitutional King of England, and he has a role to be played. He will go to Canada. He plays a role in the trade process. He has many things with Trump.

“So I think our constitutional process must include traditional authorities. I will recommend the Belgian model, where Walloon and Fleming are different people, but they have achieved arrangements where there are inclusion.

“This is something that only allows a few to be extracted. If the return of capital exceeds the development of development, why does anyone want to develop Nigeria?

“These are the two wide points that I think we need to take into account in rearranging the new Nigerian experiment. If not, I start at the age of 29, as I keep saying. Now I am 72. If there is something that hasn’t been successful, isn’t it time for us to think through a process?” He is aaked.
