Communities in Zaria and Sabon Gari local government areas of Kaduna State have described Governor Uba Sani’s ongoing road and bridge projects as transformative interventions that are revitalizing agriculture, improving livelihoods and expanding access to education, healthcare and markets.
The praise came during a statewide media tour of ongoing and completed infrastructure projects led by Kaduna State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki.
Speaking during the tour, a farmer from Anguwar Jaba in Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Malam Ibrahim Abubakar, said the construction of the Anguwar Jaba-Kakiyayi Bridge has put an end to over four decades of hardship experienced by the residents.
According to him, previous administrations failed to respond to repeated calls for the bridge, leaving farming communities isolated, especially during the rainy season.
“For more than 40 years we have suffered because there was no bridge connecting our communities. During the rainy season, farmers could not access their farmland or transport produce to markets. Governor Uba Sani has realized a dream that many thought would never come true. This bridge will increase agricultural production and improve the livelihoods of our people,” he said.
Another resident, Shamsudeen Abdullahi, described the bridge as a strategic infrastructure project connecting several farming communities in Zaria and Sabon Gari local government areas.
He said the project facilitated the transportation of agricultural products, improved access to schools and made health services more accessible.
“In the past, parents depended on canoes to carry their children across the river to school, exposing them to serious risks. During medical emergencies, accessing Limi General Hospital or Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika was extremely difficult and unfortunately we lost lives due to delay in accessing healthcare. Today, this challenge is becoming history,” Abdullahi said.
Hanwa Low Cost residents also applauded the ongoing road construction linking the community to GRA Zaria, saying it has improved connectivity, reduced travel time and boosted economic activities.
Similarly, Unguwan Gangare district chief said the road project has improved mobility within the community and increased the value of land holdings by attracting new residents and investors.
Speaking during the inspection, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said the projects reflect Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to inclusive development by ensuring that infrastructure reaches both urban and rural communities.
“These projects are not just about laying asphalt or building bridges; they are about connecting people to opportunities, improving access to schools and hospitals, opening up farming communities, stimulating local economies, and improving the quality of life of our citizens. This is the development philosophy of Governor Uba Sani’s administration,” Maiyaki said.
He revealed that the projects are part of over 150 road projects covering about 1,345 kilometers currently being executed across the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State.
“What we are witnessing is one of the most ambitious infrastructure programs in the history of Kaduna State. The Governor is deliberately investing in roads and bridges because infrastructure remains the foundation for economic growth, food security, job creation and sustainable development,” he added.
Maiyaki urged residents to take responsibility for the projects by protecting public infrastructure and supporting the administration’s efforts to achieve people-centered development.
“The government alone cannot support these investments without the support of the people. We call on communities to safeguard these facilities so that future generations can continue to benefit from them,” the commissioner said.
The media tour is part of the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to promoting transparency and providing citizens with first-hand information on the impact of projects executed across the State under the administration of Governor Uba Sani.
