The power minister calls for shared responsibility and protection of power resources

The Minister of Energy, Joseph Tegbe, has outlined his ministerial action plan for the stabilization and growth of Nigeria’s electricity sector.

This was made known at the second quarterly Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) stakeholders meeting recently convened by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Sunday in Abuja.

The forum, chaired by NERC Chairman, Dr Musiliu Oseni, was attended by energy sector stakeholders, including operators, regulators and political actors, and featured the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Rilwan Lanre Babalola, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Alh Mahmud Mamman.

In delivering the keynote address, the Minister framed his plans around the fundamental belief that Nigeria’s electricity crisis requires collective ownership across the entire value chain. β€œNigeria’s power crisis was not built by one hand, and will not be solved by one hand,” he said, calling on GenCos, DisCos, TCN, NISO, regulators and government to accept shared responsibility for both the depth of the problem and the discipline of the solution.

On infrastructure, Tegbe called for energy resources to be formally designated and treated as critical national resources, describing vandalism, grid sabotage and energy theft as economic warfare against ordinary Nigerian families. He added that securing existing assets must occur at the same time as optimizing their generation, with transmission weaknesses, rotating reserves and substation relays prioritized all actively addressed to improve near-term grid reliability.

MasterChef Nigeria breathes fire, flavor and fabulous fashions on Apron Day

By Ngozi Obi, Lagos

MasterChef Nigeria Kitchen’s White Apron Day, brought the drama of pizza, the pressure of pasta and an applause-worthy Dish of the Day display.

The day meant no one was going home. But make no mistake, this was no day off.

With it removed from the menu, creativity took center stage as contestants were challenged to bring two worlds together into one unforgettable feast. Their task? Create two Afro-Italian dishes: Italian favorites reinvented with a proudly Nigerian twist.

From rich sauces to bold spices, from fresh dough to intrepid flavor combinations, home cooks had 90 minutes to prove that Nigerian ingredients and Italian classics can speak the same delicious language. And as always in the MasterChef Nigeria kitchen, the contestants raced against the clock.

Even though no one would bring knives, the competition was still hot. Up for grabs was the title of Dish of the Day and a dream prize for every pizza lover: an Ooni pizza oven.

Pizza quickly became the talk of the town. Loved around the world and made to be shared, pizza is the ultimate social food: the kind of dish that brings friends together, fills a table and starts a debate before the first slice is even eaten.

Chef Stone made it clear that his goal is a thick, satisfying pizza base, while Chef Eros firmly stood by a thin, crispy base. Thick or thin, soft or crunchy, classic or reinvented: the contestants had to find their own way to impress.
