Zik Varsity gets a new acting VC as an appointment process with FG.

The University of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Awka, has appointed Professor Carol Chinyelugo ARINZE-TIUMOBI as vice-changing of the acting of the institution, with effect from Monday 19 May 2025.

Professor Arinze-Tumobi, professor of Human and Family Law at the University Law Faculty, was appointed by the Senate and subsequently approved by the Council in line with Section 5 (13) of the Universities (various provisions) (amendment) Act, 2003.

His appointment was confirmed in a letter dated May 16, 2025, signed by the Chancellor and President of the Board of Directors, the lawyer Olugbenga Kukoyi.

The letter observed that his mandate, stipulated pursuant to Section 5 (14) of the law, would not have exceeded six months or will end with the appointment of a substantial vice -changing.

An academic seasoned, Armino-Tumobi joined the university as a teaching assistant in 1997 and climbed on the ranks to become a professor in 2014.

He has held several leadership positions, including the head of the Department of Public and Private Law, vice-changing (Administration) and briefly held the role of vice-changing in 2024.

Reacting to development, the Ministry of Federal Education expressed satisfaction with the selection process.

In a declaration issued on Saturday, the director of the press and public relations of the Ministry, Boriowo Folasade, said that the procedure strictly joined the legal requirements and reflected university autonomy.

“The Ministry expresses its satisfaction for the fact that the selection process was conducted in line with the right trial … through the appointment of the university senate and the subsequent approval by the government council”, reads the note.

He added that the ministry was confident in Professor Armino-Tumobi’s ability to provide “stable leadership and oriented towards results” during the transition period.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, merit and respect for university governance structures in the management of Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
