A federal judge in the United States on Thursday blocked the administration of President Donald Trump from dismantling the Ministry of Education.
This marks the first time a judge declared a change in administrative area in a department that violates the law.
Judge Myong Joun from the US District Court for the Massachusetts District, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, issued a preliminary order that prohibited administration to reject half of the department’s employees.
It also prevents the department from shifting federal student loan management to small business administration.
Trump has long criticized the department and argues that although there is a significant federal investment in education, the quality of education has not met expectations.
The President, who quoted low skills in reading and mathematics among students in elementary, secondary and secondary schools, said that the department “did we not be good” and his government returned education to the state.
In March, he signed an executive order to officially begin the process of dismantling the department.
The previous department initiated large scale layoffs.
