Election 2027: Southern Kaduna youth group supports Katung for second term

The Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network has disavowed an old video calling for the recall of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, describing its release as misleading and politically motivated.

The group said the video, recorded over a year ago, was laundered by individuals allegedly sponsored by a defeated aspirant in the recent APC Southern Kaduna senatorial primaries.

Speaking at a press conference, Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network Chairman Al-amin Abbas Jere said the previous position was based on incomplete and inaccurate information, which has since been corrected.

The network said its independent analysis showed that Senator Katung and his wife were never the subject of any money laundering investigation.

The couple fell victim to circumstances arising out of a legitimate real estate transaction, adding that previous reports did not reflect the true situation.

The group admitted that its previous request to recall the senator was unfair, misleading and had been formally withdrawn.

He passed a vote of confidence in Katung, describing him as one of the most impactful leaders Southern Kaduna has produced.

The network also endorsed his bid for a second term, citing his legislative achievements and electoral interventions in the eight local government areas.

It listed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Manchok and the Sickle Cell Research and Treatment Centers Bill.

The group also cited scholarships, boreholes, solar-powered streetlights, job opportunities and other campaign projects facilitated by the senator.

He congratulated Katung’s wife on becoming the 130th Mayor of Leeds, describing the feat as a source of pride for Southern Kaduna and Nigeria.

The network warned against further dissemination of the old video, claiming that some individuals would use it to tarnish the senator’s image.

He threatened legal action against anyone who uses his name to spread what he described as false information.

The group reaffirmed its support for the re-election of Katung, Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
