Candidate Governor of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the State of Anambra, Patrick Obianyo, has resigned ahead of the November 8 elections in the state.
Obianyo, the former Chairman of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) in the state, announced his resignation in the main election of the ADC Governor’s substitute which was held on Friday at AWKA.
In exercises monitored by officials of the Independent National Election Commission (Inec), Mr. John Nwosu appeared without an opponent as a new ADC governor candidate in the state.
Obianyo quoted “the burden of aspiration” as a reason to resign.
He said his blood pressure had jumped “due to the pressure caused by position”.
The former NLC chairman added that he was happy to hand over the stick to Nwosu “to lead the party to victory” in the Governor’s race.
He described Nwosu as a more capable hand.

Obianyo said: “Please stop calling me ‘Your Majesty’. The involvement that it has stopped today.
“I am not sorry, but I am happy that I handed the stick to the more capable hands.”
Nwosu, a former candidate for governor on the labor party platform, was elected without an opponent through voting.
He was returned by the Deputy Chairperson of the ADC, Head of Anayo Arinze.
In his words, Arinze said the exercise was in line with the party’s constitution and in accordance with the election guidelines.
In the reception speech, Nwosu expressed his readiness to save Anambra.
He said the opportunity was “an important intersection in an effort to save the country.
