FIRS accused FCTA Rascality, demanding public apologies to sealing the office

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has firmly rejected accusations of unpaid land rent in Abuja’s property and called for the administration of the Federal Capital City (FCTA) to issue public apologies for the controversial sealing of one of his offices.

On Monday, the FCTA Enforcement Officer sealed FIR facilities in the city as part of a large campaign targeting property owners who failed to pay, accused the agency of failing to complete land rental obligations.

However, speaking at a press conference on Monday, Dare AdekanMBI, a special advisor about the media to the Chairperson of the FIRS, rejected the claim directly, the FCTA action brand as “rascality.”

“Why did they only go to the two offices to say that we owe them to both of them?” AdekanMBI was asked. “Do you say that we pay the basic tariff to others and we don’t pay the two offices? That is impossible. All of our offices in Abuja are registered in this letter, we pay the basic tariff.”

AdeanMBI further clarifies that FIR has paid a total of 2,364,326 as a land rent for the specific property in question. “We don’t know why they refused to accommodate the money paid, why they refused to issue receipts for the money,” he said. “And they also went to carry out this madness, as my colleague said. Because this is what they have done. They only invaded our place for no reason.”

The media advisor emphasizes that FIR is always a legal entity that is lawful and insist FCTA must provide an explanation and issue formal apologies for what he calls actions that cannot be justified.

“We demand an apology from FCT officials who come to carry out this courage. And they must explain to the Nigerians why they chose the option. Because this is a government-obedient government agent, who carries out the president’s mandate.”

Highlighting the vital role played by the FIR in state finances, Adekana noted: “Sixty -five percent of the money distributed at FAS in 2024, from January to December, originating from tax revenue collected by FIR.”
