The Committee of the Chamber of Representatives of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (Fermo) revealed that twenty-one road projects were completed in the southwestern region, while eight others are underway in the state of Kwara.
The president of the Committee, Hon Adremi Hussein, made this known to Ilorin, Kwara State Capital, during an inspection of supervision of the activities of Fermo in Kwara, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun and Lagos.
He said the visit was part of the efforts to verify that the funds provided were adequately used for road maintenance.

He said the committee was satisfied with the volume of works carried out in line with the 2024 approvals after the briefs received by state directors and engineers.
“After our meetings with the engineers of federal maintenance of the road, we were quite satisfied with the briefs received by the directors and state engineers responsible for the work volume carried out so far.”
“21 projects have been assigned in South West 1 and everyone has been completely completed and you have to appreciate the team for having delivered what was expected from them,” he said.
Hussein, who represents Ido and Ibarapa East Federal Collegy of the State of Oyo, has noticed that the sunglasses are not sufficient.
“As members of the Committee, it is not enough to rely on the documentation. That’s why we are visiting project sites to confirm that what has been reported corresponds to what is on the ground,” he said.
He explained that eight projects were approved for Kwara, on these five they had been completed, while three were underway.
“One of the roads still in progress is the 9 kilometer stretch from the Rotonda of the Offa Garage at the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies.
“I was eager to evaluate which sections have been completed and which they are still outstanding. This will help us reconcile the work with the invoice of the quantities,” he observed.
The legislator also asked for further firm loans.
According to him, the agency receives only 10 percent of what he needs to operate effectively.
He complained that Fermo was one of the most reliable government agencies.
“At the beginning, the agency was adequately financed. The engineers worked actively. Contractors were busy. People could see a quality work done across the country,” he said.
“But things have changed. The current conditions of the roads throughout Nigeria clearly show that the funds they now receive every year are not enough.”
He added that the need for better support is now obvious both for experts and for ordinary road users.
Hussein said that the committee is engaged in responsibility, underlining that each fund allocated must be traced back to the project to which it was intended.
He greeted President Bola Tinubu for giving priority to infrastructure as part of the renewed Hope initiative.
“The president is intentional to make the road roads. Our current appropriation shows that it is also pursuing Legacy projects that will complete the existing ones,” he presented.
Even speaking, the zonal coordinator of Fermo for South West 1, English Babaunde Aina, said that the loan remains a great challenge.
He explained that many roads embrace several kilometers, but the budget limitations force the agency to concentrate on critical portions.
“For example, we have a nine -kilometer road, but funding can only cover the key areas. This does not mean that other parts are fine, but we are able to repair only the worst parts. The rest must wait for future allocations,” he said.
