The control of the border remains the minister of focus on national focus
… while FG reiterates the commitment for the innovative border, the management of migration
Abuja (basic reporter) The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment for strategic, safe and technologically advanced management, stating that the control of the pensioner remains focused.
The Minister of the Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo gave the reaffirmation during a high-level commitment with the international organization for migration (Iom) and other key interested parties in Abuja.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo underlined the evolution identity of the country as more than a simple nation but a lighthouse of innovation, opportunities and hospitality for everyone. “Nigeria is a nation of hope not only for the Nigerians but for the global community. We are proud to host you and ensure our people who love peace and innovative and our full collaboration in all initiatives related to migration,” he said.
By highlighting the maximum priority of the government, the minister stressed that borders control remains a national focus: “A safe nation from the Safe border Isyna. Without adequate borders management, we cannot guarantee the safety of our people”.
The minister said that significant progress has been carried out in completing the first surveillance system of the e-confine edge of Nigeria, with plans in progress to extend real-time monitoring in all 4,047 km of the nation borders.
A declaration by the director of the press and public petitions, Ozoya Imohimi, said that Dr. Tunji-Ojo explained that the government has improved the sovereign travel document of Nigeria, aligning it with the best global practices.
He said that the government also launched a digitized landing and output paper system, starting from May 1 through the air, terrestrial and maritime borders with e-visa platform, providing candidates with a simplified process within 48 hours, thus increasing economic activity through greater accessibility.
Dr. Olubunmi stressed that the government has established a centralized information management system to integrate the visa, passengers and security data for cross -referentiation and the improvement of national security with the implementation of information systems on early passengers (API), with future updates provided for the transition to the transition to interactive API functionality (IAPI).
However, the minister expressed serious concern for a recent seminar facilitated by Iom who proceeded without consultation or involvement by the Nigerian immigration service or the ministry.
He said that the seminar was financed by a foreign ministry, touched national security issues, pushing the minister to report it as a “serious violation of our sovereign rights”.
The minister said that the Nigerian is not an defenseless nation “We are not defenseless. They welcome collaboration, but the support must respect the sovereignty and dignity of Nigeria,” he said.
The minister clarified that any commitment regarding national security must include relevant Nigerian authorities and reflect mutual respect.
In response, the head of the mission of Iom Nigeria, Mrs. Dimanche Sharon, offered sincere gratitude for the candid observations of the minister and the warm welcome to Nigeria. By sharing his personal experience of moving from Kenya to Nigeria, he praised the extraordinary spirit, creativity and unspeakable stories of innovation in the country. “I am proud to call Nigeria at home. I believe in telling a new story of Nigeria, true story,” he said.
Mrs. Sharon expressed the readiness of the IOM to continue working in collaboration with the Nigerian authorities in line with three strategic priorities including the rescue of lives and the protection of vulnerable populations, guiding solutions to the displacement and facilitating regular migration paths, including efforts on digital transformation and borders governance.
Basic journalists report that dialogue has been used to support mutual reaffirmation of the need for stronger collaboration, greater transparency and sovereign respect in all migration and safety of borders initiatives.
