The former general manager of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the current deputy director (administration) of the IMO state government, dr. Patrick Ekeji will receive the prestigious Wakawaka Sports Award this weekend in Owerri.
A figure respected in Nigerian sports, Dr. Ekeji has been recognized for his exceptional contributions to the development and transformation of the sports administration in the country. A former national player and coach of the national team later was DG of the NSC, where he implemented key reforms that contributed to modeling modern sports policy and infrastructure in Nigeria.
Reacting at the announcement of the prize, Dr. Ekeji expressed gratitude and reflected on the importance of basic sports development.
> “I am really honored to be recognized with the Wakawaka Sports Award. It’s a humiliating experience,” he said. “But beyond this recognition, I want to exploit this opportunity to underline the need for adequate use of mini sports centers throughout Nigeria.
