Sports247 reports that 20 goals were scored in eight games in an action-packed opening day, highlighting the quality and competitiveness of this year’s tournament.

In Group A, DreamStar Ladies put in one of the standout performances of the day, defeating Rosaria Victrix 3-1. Anuoluwapo Awotidoye scored a brace, while Khadija Kamarudeen added another to give the Lagos team an impressive opening victory.

Delta Babes also started their campaign on a winning note, beating First Mahi Babes 2-1 thanks to goals from Miracle Edafe and Nancy Kehinde.

Group B had mixed results, as Pelican Stars beat Ikukuoma Queens 2-1 thanks to goals from Amarachi Abel and Ewa Peace.

Meanwhile, Moje Queens and Gallant Queens shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, the first stalemate of the championship.

In Group C, Wazbak International Sports Academy emerged as one of the biggest winners of the day, battling to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Fortress Ladies despite facing stiff resistance. Rangers Women and Unification FC, however, settled for a goalless draw in a very close match.

Group D belonged to Imo Striker Queens, who produced the most dominant display of the first round with a convincing 3-0 win over Chosen Generation Angels.

Mmesoma Amaechi scored twice after Anastasia Uzor opened the scoring. The Ghetto Tigers also recorded a valuable 1-0 victory against Kwara Ladies, with Gift Udo Mama scoring the decisive goal.

With only one team from each group advancing to the promotion playoffs, the initial results have already intensified the battle for qualification.

Attention now turns to matchday two, where several clubs will look to consolidate their positions, while others will look to revive their promotion hopes after a disappointing start.

The championship continues in Calabar with every point proving crucial in the race for a place in the NWFL Premiership.
