Christian leaders in 19 northern states Nigeria have asked their community to be more active in the political process of the country.
They urge people to believe not only vote but also look for an elective office as a 2027 general election approach.
The leaders filed an appeal during the State Conference of Maiden from the Northern Northern Nigerian Political Forum (CNNPF), which was held on Sunday in the Akwanga Regional Government area in the nasarawa state.
The event, themed “Christian Participation in Politics: Panacea for the Empowerment of Women and Youth in Northern Nigeria,” gathering political and religious stakeholders from all regions.
In his speech above the name of the National President CNNPF, Barau Mohammed, emphasized that the apathetic politics among the northern Christians must provide ways for active involvement and civilian responsibility.
Mohamed was represented in the forum by the Executive Secretary of the Association, Illiya Ishaya.

“We do not ask for special treatment or Christians dominate. We only encourage participation,” Ishaya said.
“Politics is not holy. This is a vehicle that through leadership is delivered and our people must consider it seriously if we want a better Nigeria.”
He noted that many Christians in the north tend to withdraw from politics, often quoting disappointment or religious issues. “This mindset must change,” he added. “Democracy develops when each group contributes. Christians must register, choose, and compete.”
He also praised the Coordinator of the State of the Forum, promising Ezekiel, and his team to spearhead the effort to promote political education in the Christian community throughout the Christianity.
High officials from the Federal Capital Region, Taraba, Katsina, and other northern countries attended the meeting, which ended with a new promise to expand the political literacy campaign before 2027.
