[Press Release] The Association of Nigerian authors (Ana) is absolutely upset by persistent attacks on innocent civilians in Benue’s state, in particular by suspicious armed shepherds. These brutal assaults have led to a remarkable loss of human lives, the displacement of residents and a deep sense of fear and insecurity in the affected communities.
We condemn these hateful acts of violence in the strongest possible terms, which have targeted vulnerable populations, including women, children and the elderly. The frequency and ferocity of these attacks serve as a clear reminder of the urgent need for an effective action to protect the lives and the means of subsistence of the Nigerians.
The Ana asks state and federal governments to take immediate and decisive actions to deal with the underlying causes of these attacks.
We further urge the governments at all levels to give priority to the safety and safety of the generality of Nigerian citizens, in particular in rural communities, and to work to find a lasting solution to this crisis.
The Ana is solidarity with the people of Benue and other states who live a turn of similar events and requests that the government takes concrete measures to protect their lives and ownership. We will continue to raise our voice against injustice and support the rights and dignity of all Nigerians.
