Over 6,000 patients treated in two weeks – Coordinator

The annual free medical mission initiated by retired Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Uche Nwagu prior to his retirement from the Nigerian Air Force has continued to have a significant impact on healthcare delivery in Mbaise, Imo State, attracting thousands of patients from across the South East.
The medical initiative, organized under the Nwagu Health Initiative in collaboration with the Azumi Ladi Danat Foundation (ALDA), has grown into a major humanitarian medical program over the past three years, offering free medical care and surgical procedures to beneficiaries.
Speaking on the impact of the latest edition, Coordinator and Personal Assistant to the retired Air Vice Marshal, Anselm Onyeananam, revealed that over 6,000 patients were treated during the two-week programme.
According to him, the beneficiaries came from different south-eastern states and other parts of the country to avail the free medical services provided by the initiative.
The medical mission treated patients suffering from various ailments, including fibroids, tumors, eye conditions, malaria, appendicitis and other diseases requiring medical and surgical intervention.
The program has provided a lifeline to many people who would otherwise struggle to meet the financial needs of medical care and surgeries.
The growing number of beneficiaries traveling to Mbaise for the annual exercise has also given the community growing recognition as a destination for medical care, with sufferers from different parts of the region now making the journey to access the free services.
The partnership between Nwagu’s Health Initiative and the Azumi Ladi Danat Foundation (ALDA) has enabled the program to bring medical professionals and specialized health services closer to the communities that need them most.
Despite his retirement from the Nigerian Air Force, AVM Nwagu remained committed to the humanitarian initiative he started while on active duty, proving that retirement from the military does not mean retirement from service to humanity.
Onyeananam said the huge number of beneficiaries recorded during the latest edition is an indication of the growing impact of the program and its importance to communities across the region.
For many beneficiaries, the medical mission went beyond routine healthcare provision, offering hope, relief and free access to life-saving care.

With over 6,000 people treated in just two weeks, the annual program is fast becoming one of the largest free health interventions in the area, further strengthening Mbaise’s emerging reputation as a destination for medical care.
Organizers expressed optimism that, with continued support and partnership, the initiative will reach even more people in subsequent editions and continue its mission of providing free, quality healthcare to those in need.
