Orders of Sudan renews Khartum’s wings

Sudan Prime Minister, dr. Kamil El-Tayib Idris, ordered the reopening of the universities of Khartum, reporting a passage to the restoration of the education sector devastated by the country’s war.

In a directive issued to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Prime Minister asked for a global assessment of the damage supported by universities and research centers during the conflict.

The goal is to evaluate the necessary repairs before they resume academic activities.

From the epidemic of war in April 2023, the educational infrastructure of Sudan – in particular in the state of Khartum, has undergone a significant destruction, leaving many unusable institutions.

As part of the efforts to support national recovery and reconciliation, Dr. Idris also instructed the National Center for Curricula and the educational research to integrate the contents that promote peace, unity and refusal of hatred speeches in the national curriculum.

Although no specific reopening date has been announced, the directive marks a critical step towards the reconstruction of the educational system in the midst of the humanitarian crisis under the Sudan.

The war caused the death of at least 24,000 people, although it is believed that real figures are much higher. More than 13 million people have been displaced, including 4 million who fled to neighboring countries.

The conflict has led to a widespread famine and what the United Nations describe how the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.

The fights were characterized by serious violations of human rights, including mass rapes and ethnically targeted killings, particularly in Darfur.

These atrocities have been classified by the United Nations and the United Nations dog dogs as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
