The president of the Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF), Mrs. Olabisi Temitope Josehas been chosen as Continental President for Africa of the International School Sports Federation (ISF)making history as the first African woman to hold the prestigious position.
Mrs. Joseph was elected on Tuesday during the ISF General Assembly 2026 held in Belgrade, Serbia, where delegates from 82 member countries came together to shape the future of global school sports. A total of 79 votes were issued during the elections.
Its emergence marks a historic moment not only for Nigeria but also for African school sports, as it becomes the first woman in Africa and the first woman in the history of the International School Sports Federation be elected ISF Continental President for Africa.
The historic election is widely seen as a reflection of Nigeria’s growing influence in the administration of school sports and its commitment to youth development through sport.
In a statement issued by the Nigerian School Sports FederationThe federation described the achievement as a milestone for Nigerian and African school sports, and expressed confidence in Ms Joseph’s ability to provide strong leadership at the continental level.
“The Nigerian School Sports Federation is proud to announce that the NSSF President, Mrs. Olabisi Temitope Joseph, has been elected International School Sports Federation Continental President for Africa,” the statement read.
The federation also reaffirmed its support for the newly elected continental president as she takes on the responsibility of promoting school sports throughout Africa.
