24 people were killed and many other wounds in a suicidal bombing conducted by an attacker in the area of the local government of Konduga in the state of Borno on Friday evening.
The explosion that has also wounded another seven years when the suspected suicidal bomber of Boko Haram exploded an explosive device in a lively fish market in the LGA.
Confirming the accident on Saturday, the spokesman for the Borno State Police Command, Asp Nahun Daso, said that the striker exploded an improvised explosive device (IED) in a crowded food joint in which the residents had gathered to buy food.
“The explosion caused enormous victims. The body of the suicidal bomber was seriously dismembered, with only the head taken from the scene,” Daso said.
He observed that a joint response team to emergencies that includes the disposal of the explosive police devices: chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear unit (Eod-Cbrn), the Civil Joint Task Force (CJTF) and CJTF) and the local hunters were immediately distributed on the site.
The area was isolated and carefully sought other explosive devices, but nobody was found.
The injuries were brought to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (Umth), where they are currently receiving care. The bodies of the deceased were also deposited to the hospital morgue.
The medical staff in the hospital confirmed the deaths, while efforts are underway to identify the victims and inform their families for a correct burial in accordance with religious rites.
Since then, safety has been strengthened in Konduga and nearby communities to prevent further attacks and reassure the public of their safety.
Source of safety and eye witnesses confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the striker had disguised himself as a civilian and infiltrated the crowded market before triggering the deadly explosion.
The explosion, which took place around 20:30, immediately killed the bomber and 10 civilians, leaving another seven with various degrees of injuries.
The troops of the Nigerian army, together with the response teams to emergencies, arrived quickly on the scene and evacuated the wounded in a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
