New details have emerged on the real reasons behind the sudden resignations of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as national president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), indicating a combination of political intrigues, legal problems and health problems.

Ganduje, a former two -terms governor of the state of Kano, resigned from his position on Friday, in a move that more impeccable sources said that the platform Times was far from voluntary.

The resignation, which have an immediate effect, come between the growing internal pressure and the negotiations behind the scenes orchestrated at the highest levels of power.

Among the factors that have sealed the exit of Ganduje is the political move calculated to pave the way for the defection of his rival and long -term political predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in the APC to power in view of the general elections of 2027.

The Times platform collected reliably that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has actively courted Kwankwaso, which contested the presidential elections of 2023 pursuant to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as part of its wider roller strategy in the North.

However, according to reports, Kwankwaso clarified that he would not join the Epc with Ganduje at the helm, given the deep animosity between the two heavyweights of Kano.

“The president is seriously to bring Kwankwaso to the fold of the APC, but everyone knows that he and Ganduje cannot coexist in the same political space,” a senior APC Insider told Platform Times that requested the anonymity.

“The resignation was more a sacrifice to allow a greater political alliance in view of 2027.”

In addition to the Kwankwaso factor, the legal battles and the state of health during the Ganduje were also mentioned as convincing reasons underlying the decision.

He is currently facing a judicial case linked to the falsification that has put the part in a difficult position regarding his image and internal integrity.

Although he had claimed health reasons in his resignation letter, Ganduje had continued to make public appearances that contradictive his declared conditions.

On the same day of his resignation, he led the APC National Work Committee (NWC) in a visit of condolences to the Governor Umaru Bago of the State of the Niger, following the tragic floods of Mokwa and renewed bandit attacks in the area of the local government of Mariga.

Just a day before, he participated in a high -level consultative meeting between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) and political parties.

His resignation bring to the end a short but turbulent mandate that began in August 2023, following the exit of Abdullahi Adamu.

His leadership was marked by legal brawls, internal crisis and intense factionalism, in particular in the APC chapter of Kano.

On Friday evening, in an official confirmation, the secretary of the national advertising of the APC, Felix Morka, said that Ganduje’s resignation were to allow him to participate in “urgent and important personal issues”.

The party appointed the national vice president (North), wings Dalori, as an interim president pending a formal ratification by the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) during the December meeting.

“The trust placed in him by the meetings Nec and National Caucus of the party in February 2025 was a profound recognition and honor for his service,” Morka said in a note.

“He leaves his position pride in our collective successes, including defections by opposition and legal statements of our party leadership.”

However, political observers believe that Ganduje’s departure reports more than a personal decision: it is a strategic move of political chess aimed at remodeling the northern block of the APC and improving its electoral possibilities in 2027.

With Ganduje outside, all eyes are now on Kwankwaso and if he will make the move much awaited at the APC, a decision that could significantly alter the political landscape of Nigeria in the months to come.
