Thugs attack ADC members in Kaduna

Manasseh Istifanus, African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Kaduna State Assembly, Zangon Kataf constituency, has condemned an alleged attack on party supporters at Dakande toll gate, Kaduna.
In a statement released in Kaduna on Tuesday, Istifanus described the alleged attack as “shameful and reprehensible,” saying supporters had gathered peacefully to receive the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Isa Ashiru, after his return from Umrah.
Istifanus said thugs attacked supporters during the rally.
He described the incident as an attack on innocent citizens and party supporters, as well as an affront to democracy, freedom of association and citizens’ right to peacefully participate in political activities.
The candidate urged relevant security agencies and authorities to swiftly investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
He described political violence, intimidation and criminality as unacceptable in a democratic society.
Istifanus said that politics should be about ideas, service, persuasion and the will of the people rather than violence and intimidation.
“Politics should be about ideas, service, persuasion and the will of the people; not violence, intimidation and thuggery,” he said.
He called on political stakeholders to promote peaceful participation and respect the rights of citizens and party supporters regardless of their political affiliations.
