The Chairperson of the LP Acting, Usman, supported Obi’s participation in the opposition coalition, rejected Abure faction

Acting Chairperson of the Labor Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has stressed that the party gave full approval for Peter Obi, 2023 Presidential Candidate, to join the newly formed opposition coalition led by former Senate President David Mark.

In a statement issued on Thursday through his aide, Ken Asogwa, Usman condemned the party faction led by Julius Abure as “Jester Politics,” insisted that they did not have legal and party recognition. According to him, Abure and his colleagues, who recently issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Obi to resign from the party, had been expelled from the office by the Supreme Court and expelled from the party because of alleged discipline and anti-party behavior.

“To avoid doubts, the leadership of the Labor Party, on May 26, 2025, openly expressed its full support for Obi’s involvement in the coalition effort aimed at creating a strong political alternative to save Nigeria from the mischievous mistakes of APC,” said the statement.

Usman reiterated that Obi’s presence at the opening of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was due to the coalition platform with party explicit knowledge and approval.

“We want to reiterate that Peter Obi’s participation in coalition activities, including the opening of ADCs, is carried out with full knowledge, approval, and support of the Labor Party’s leadership,” he added.

Describing Abure’s faction as “discredited elements,” Usman claimed that party leadership is currently working to restore order and integrity to LP after what he described as internal damage caused by groups that are overthrown.

“This is the remnants of the chaos and chaos left by these fraudsters that the current leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman continues to clean up. Therefore, members of the community, and especially the media, are urged to ignore the disturbances and damage from these discredited elements,” the statement concluded.

On Wednesday, the leaders of the newly formed opposition coalition met in Abuja, announced the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as an integrated platform for the 2027 general election. David Mark was appointed as a temporary national chairman, while former Governor of State Osun and former Minister of Home Affairs, Rauf Aregbesola, was appointed as a temporary secretary.

In addition to obi, notable figures present at the unveiling included former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), and Several Other Political Heavywets Ireti Kingibe, former IMO Governor Emeka Imedoha, former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, and Marshal Sadique Abubakar Air (RTD.).

The coalition is expected to intensify efforts to build strong political alternatives for the decisions of all Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election.
