Lafiagi praises Kwara Govt for dealing with Secur …

An eminent political and aspiring governor in the state of Kwara, Malam Tajudeen Audu, Makaman Lafiagi, praised the government of the state of Kwara for his recent efforts in facing the safety challenges in the Senatorial District of the north of Kwara.

However, he underlined the urgent need for the federal authorities to intensify support in order to completely eliminate the persistent threat of bandits in the region.

Makaman Lafiagi has expressed profound concerns about the recurring cases of attacks, kidnappings and killings by bandits through the villages of Kwara North, describing the situation as a great security crisis that continued to dissipate local communities.

In a declaration issued during the weekend, he said: “While we must recognize the encouraging response of the state government of Kwara, in particular the deployment of an additional security staff in the affected areas, it is time that the federal authorities intervene and integrate these efforts. Without coordinated intervention, there is a real risk that violence extends in other parts of the State.”

According to him, recent relationships had shown that the bandits now operated with alarming audacity, moving openly on motorcycles while branded the Ak-47 rifles with impunity.

This, he observed, had led to the mass displacement of the village inhabitants, many of whom had fled their homes and agricultural land for fear of being attached, kidnapped or killed.

He complained that the growing insecurity had already given a blow to the economic prospects of the state.

“Only recently, the state of Kwara has lost a vital investment opportunity that was to be located in the local government of Pastigi, a project that has crossed the tireless efforts of the state government. Unfortunately, the prevalent insecurity has discouraged investors from the procedure,” he said.

Makaman Lafiagi underlined the strategic economic importance of Kwara North, describing it as a region richly endowed with fertile land ideal for mechanized agriculture, “which has great potential both for local development and for the generation of changes.

“The continuous presence of bandits in this sector threatens to sabotage these opportunities and could significantly derail the economic well -being of people and the state as a whole.”

He concluded by asking for a united front in the fight against the threat.

He said: “Given the severity of the situation, it is essential that all interested parties, including local vigilants and regular security agencies, effectively collaborate in emptying the criminal elements and restore peace to our communities”.
