“It will hit you hard”: Federer reveals Sampras advice

Pete Sampras has warned Roger Federer that his upcoming induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame would be a moment like no other that would hit him hard and deliver a major blow.

Before his induction, Federer shared that he asked Sampras what the experience was like and received advice that looking back on his own career and being among the icons of the sport would move him deeply.

Federer expressed his excitement at having his memories in his head and being in the presence of other legends of the game who paved the way.

He stated that reflecting on these icons is always inspiring.

“A little bit of the unknown, to be honest,” Federer admitted when asked about his feelings before the ceremony.

“I remember talking to Sampras about it. I asked him, ‘What was it like for you to get into the Tennis Hall of Fame?

“He says, it’s a moment like no other, Roger. You’re going to see that it’s going to hit you hard and it’s going to hit you hard, so I’m looking forward to that, you know, too.

“Having my memories in my head, seeing other legends or icons of the game that have paved the way for us and just being there in their presence, I think is always very inspiring.”
