The Governor of the State Ekiti, Biodun Oyebbanji, has firmly rejected the media report that accused his planned purchase of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) together with former Governor Kayode Fayemi and other top political figures in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday by advisors, especially about the media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor of Oyebbanji, described the claim as “wrong, misleading, and efforts calculated by political crime makers to sow disputes” in all progressive congress (APC) in Ekiti.
The Governor stressed that he and the holders of the public office mentioned in the report remain a faithful APC member and did not have the intention to leave the party. “Staying silent in the midst of such false falsehood will be detrimental to good people in the state, some of them can be cheated to trust misleading reports,” he said.
The statement also referred to the public appearance of the former Governor of Fayemi recently at the APC Caucus meeting held in Iyin-Ekiti, where the party reiterated his support for the President of the Tinubu Bola and supported the Governor of Oyewbanji for the second term of office. The event, which is interesting to the broad media coverage, further shows unity in party leadership in the state, the statement said.
“Governor Oyewbanji has, since the return of democracy in 1999, has been a member of progressive folds. He is one of the few politicians in Ekiti who has never diverted loyalty from the progressive movement,” Oyebode added.
The Governor’s Media Office linked rumors to what was described as a “hopeless plot” by a frustrated political rival with their inability to build meaningful grassroots support before the 2026 Governor Election.
“We are aware of the deliberate efforts by several damage makers to arise the old relationship between Governor Oyebbanji with Dr. Fayemi in an effort to create friction between the Governor and President of Tinubu,” the statement reads. “Unfortunately for Jesters, the President is a strategic politician who can see through their crime.”
OYEBode urged the population of Ekiti’s state to ignore what he called the “childish media attack” which was sponsored by “disciplinary politicians” which did not have credibility and ideas to connect with voters.
“Now that after the Independent National Election Commission has announced the date of the party’s preliminary election, it is hoped that those who aspire to positions must advance and be involved with party members and voters, rather than using propaganda that does not violate,” the statement concluded.
