Stock market sustains bull run, gains N437bn


Transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Friday sustained an upward trend, appreciating by N437 billion as bulls dominated trading activities on the day.

The market capitalization of listed stocks increased by 0.28% to N157.587 trillion from N157.150 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share index also appreciated by 674.61 basis points to 243052.74 points from 242378.13 traded on the previous day.

The positive performance was supported by gains recorded in small and mid-cap stocks, including NGX Group, AccessCorp, Fidelity, Zenith Omatek, Chams Entrazact and others.

Market breadth was positive with 30 advancers versus 18 decliners, bringing the highest year-to-date return to 56.19%; trading volume decreased by 846.110 million, or 60.48%, as investors traded 552.890 million shares versus 1.399 billion the previous day; the value of transactions fell by 4.97% to stand at N25.790 billion.

An analysis of the investment showed that Abbey Building Society and UPDC REIT led the earnings chart with 10% to close at N7.15 and N13.75 per unit respectively; Omatek followed with a gain of 9.60% to close at N1.37 per unit; Conhall Plc added 9.06% to close at N6.50 per unit; Chams Plc gained 8.90% to close at N3.67 per unit; Entrazact gained 8.79% to close at N13.00 per unit.

In contrast, JohnHolt tops the losers chart, falling 10% to N9.00 per unit; AustinLaz lagged behind with a loss of 9.55% to close at N8.55 per unit; Royal Express fell 9.09% to close at N0.90 per unit; Linkage Assurance fell 8.14% to close at N1.58 per share; UDPC fell 5.88% to close at N3.20 per share.

Trading in Sterling Holding Company shares led market activities with 92,515 million shares valued at N698,409 million; Fidelity Bank followed with an account of 61,316 million shares costing N1,164 billion; Mutual Benefits traded 28,729 million shares worth N84,631 million; GTCO Plc traded 28,715 million at a cost of N373,000 million; Access Holdings Company traded 25,741 million shares at a cost of N739,276 million.
