2027: ADC does not have a selected presidential candidate – David Mark

The temporary chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has clarified that the opposition coalition that appeared under the party banner had not yet supported the presidential candidate before the 2027 general election.

The former senate president made this known in a statement issued by his media team in Abuja on Tuesday, following a broad report that showed that the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Presidential Candidates Peter Obi Labor Party, and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi were among the pioneers for the ADC presidential ticket.

Overcoming speculation, Mark emphasized that the party did not respond to any candidate and instead focused on building a strong and credible platform that was interesting for the majority of Nigerians.

“ADC does not have a preferred or favorite presidential candidate but has first issued a platform that will be interesting and can be accepted by the majority of Nigerians,” he said.

His statement arose amid internal tensions triggered by claims from the 2023 party presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who accused the temporary leadership of the bias that supported Atiku Abubakar. Kachikwu and other party stakeholders have voiced concerns that the ambitions of top competitors can create a deep division in the coalition.

Mark, however, rejected the accusation and reiterated the party’s commitment to justice and transparency.

“I do not have this party more than our members, and I urge all members to prepare to show the Nigerians that ADC is a different party, a party that is ready to carry out democracy well in our country,” he said.

He asked Nigeria from all backgrounds to take ADC ownership, positioning it as a unifying force in the country’s political landscape.

“We do this because we do not want this big ship named Nigeria to sink. If we don’t rise, and now, they will sink all of us,” Mark warned.

ADC, which has just been adopted as an operational platform of the developing opposition coalition, positions itself as the main challengers of the Congress of All Progressive (APC) in power in the 2027 election.
