ADC accused the Tinubu government of planning the opposition loud action under the closing of national security

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration led by the Tinubu ball of putting the foundation for strong actions against opposition figures by making fear of national security.

The party accused that the new statement by the President’s aide was part of the efforts that were calculated to delegitimize differences of opinion and silenced democratic votes that were critical of the decisions of all Progressive Congress (APC).

In a very statement that read on Wednesday, ADC condemned the claims made by President Tinubu’s special advisor about information and strategies, Bayo Onanuga, as “slandering, dangerous, and very irresponsible.”

Onanuga, in a post on X (previously Twitter), accused that certain political actors “united to overthrow the most focused, most transformative administration in our history.”

Reacting to the post, ADC described it as “Examples of Political Dog Pelter’s Textbooks,” warns that such language can function as an excuse for authoritarian style oppression. “The Federal Government led by APC seems to build a false narrative designed to justify the potential for decline in opinion and criminalize legitimate opposition activities by guise of protecting national security,” said Bolaji Abdullahi, Secretary of the National Publicity of the Party.

The party categorically denied involvement in the anti-democratic plot, emphasizing its commitment to peaceful political involvement. “ADC is not interested in cutting democracy,” the statement said. “We are solely committed to saving the nation from the inability of this government. And the only way available to us is a democratic way.

“We are not soldiers; we are politicians. We do not have bullets – only ballots. When the time comes, we will present our solutions and alternative future visions to Nigerians and leave them to make their choices.”

Abdullahi further criticized APC for what he called “political amnesia,” noted that the party had developed as an opposition force before taking over power. “This is a great miracle that the same party, who is in power as the force of opposition, now seems to find the idea of opposition that is unacceptable,” he said.

ADC urged President Tinubu to warn his maids against careless political rhetoric. “How to cry wolves where nothing does not make the president look good and only betray panic,” added the statement.

He also warned that increasing intolerance to criticism and opposition threatened to reduce Nigeria’s democratic space. “Our democratic health depends on the free, open, and competitive political environment. What we see is a dangerous shift towards authoritarianism.”

The party asks citizens to remain vigilant and in democratic institutions, both at home and abroad, to monitor developments in Nigeria carefully.

“We urge the international community, including democratic governments, human rights organizations, and election observers, to request the accountability of the Tinubu government for any actions that damage democratic freedom or violate the political rights of Nigerian citizens,” ADC said.
