The House of Representatives on Thursday began an investigation of the alleged transfer of funds and unethical practices in the student loan scheme.
Public hearing conducted by the DPR Committee regarding student loans after delayed disbursement reports, lack of transparency and collusion by stakeholders.
In his words at the opening of a public hearing about this problem. Parliament speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, said that parliament members would not protect anyone who violated the scheme contained by the Tinubu Bola President to increase access to higher education in the country.
He says; “The credibility of the program and trust of the Nigerian people in public institutions is at stake.
“We can’t fold our hands and let this be swept away under the carpet.”

The speaker said the DPR was empowered to investigate the behavior of authority or any agent responsible for implementing the laws enacted by the National Assembly.
He stressed that the exercise was not a hunt for a witch but a deliberate effort to identify weaknesses, correct procedural weaknesses, and ensure accountability in the management of public funds.
“The purpose of this house is not to hunt for anyone’s magicians but to ensure that each cobo is allocated to support Nigerian students to be used wisely and transparently,” he added.
Abbas showed that the Nigerian education loan funds, which were established through student loan laws (access to tertiary education), 2024, as one of the leading initiatives of President Tinubu’s administration.
