The union of academic staff universities (Asuu), the Yobe State University branch, has started an indefinite industrial strike for the requests for the rights and autonomy of the state government.
This was announced after a closed -door meeting chaired by the president of Asuu, branch of the YouBe State University, dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, on the university campus.
Briefing journalists on the decision, Karage said that their requests are implementing the minimum wage N70.000 and consequential adjustments for all staff, an appropriate positioning of the promotion and an annual increase for staff, with the payment of the arrears for annual increases, the minimum wage of 2019 consequential adjustments and promotion arrests from 2018 to 2024.
He said that others include the payment of PG facilitation allowance and other legal rights that add respectively that, despite the repeated reminders and waiting for patients, the government did not respond significantly to their question leading to a loss of morality between academic staff to function effectively.
The union that expressed regrets for the fact that the strike will interrupt academic activities and the impact on students and their families, however it has added that it believes that the future of the university depends on a sustainable and fair system that respects the contributions of its staff and honors its obligations.
The Union therefore urged all the interested parties, including parents, students, former students, media and civil society, join them in appealing for justice, equity and governance responsible in the education sector.
