The young people of Osun threaten the state protest for the funds of the Red Cross withheld

The anger is preparing in the state of Osun while dozens of young people under the aegis of Osun Youths Vanguard have threatened to undertake a massive protest for the prolonged non -release of funds intended for the operations of the Red Cross of the State.

In a declaration issued on Thursday and signed by the Group’s public relations official, Tope Ayeni, the young people accused both the national leadership and the state one of the company of the Nigerian Red Cross of bad financial management, lack of transparency and deliberate negligence.

They warned that, unless the funds were released within seven days, they would have closed the secretariat of State of Osun and mobilize for a state event.

According to the group, the funds, which according to what reported were assigned by the national body for humanitarian and operational activities in Osun, were retained for over seven months, with consequent decline in the execution of the project and poor well -being for the volunteers.

“The deliberated deduction of the funds by the leadership of the Red Cross has not only paralyzed our activities, but also demoralized the committed volunteers who depend on these operations for the impact of the community”, reads the note.

The group took particular purpose to the national president of the Red Cross, Prince OluyeMisi Adetayo Adeaga, describing his leadership as “inconsistent, not responsible and full of distrust”.

In addition, the secretary of state of Osun, Mr. Tolulope Ogunleye, who accused of presumably having repressed the interested parts within the organization and frustrating efforts to request responsibility.

“Prince Adeaga must act within the next seven days or face the full anger of young people,” added the declaration. “The continuous subtraction of funds by the privileged few at the expense of the majority will no longer be tolerated.”

When he was contacted, Ogunleye confirmed the seven months delay in funding, but removed the state chapter from the matter, insisting on the fact that the fault resides in the national body.

“The delay is unfortunate, and it is true that the funds have not been released for months, but it is entirely from the national headquarters. We are equally worried at the state level,” he said.

Reacting also to development, Prince’s media office Adega said that the issue had been referred to the Red Cross Management Team and that an official response would have been issued in debt time.
