The Kaduna State Chapter from the Obidient Movement has officially canceled the “Freedom Walk & Fuel Assistance Program” planned to respect the 64th anniversary of Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate from the Labor Party.
The cancellation was announced on Saturday by the Group Coordinator, Yusuf Danbaki, by post distributed by the Deputy Coordinator, Professor Danjuma Sale, at X (previously Twitter). The decision, according to the statement, was made for the benefit of public peace and to avoid the possibility of legal disorders and order.
The event, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, has attracted continuous supervision of the security agency, including the Nigerian police and the State Service Department (DSS). Danbaki, who was originally in Abuja, was reportedly contacted by a security operator who warned the possibility that the event could be hijacked by criminal elements.
Upon returning to Kaduna, a member of the event organizing committee, including Prof. Danjuma Sale, Daniel Ekembi, Prince Natty Auta, Evans Obi, and Yehezkiel Chikwuemeka, were invited to a series of consultations at the Sabo police station. The meetings then involved the Commissioner of the State Police Kaduna and the Director of DSS.
It has been collected that during the discussion, security officials argued that the proposed road was an illegal political meeting, mainly because it coincided with the main election for the next selection of the state in the state. They expressed concern that general meetings could trigger unrest or disturb the rights of other citizens for political expressions.
In response, the obidient movement maintains its position as a civilian group without violence without the intention to incite tension. The organizer emphasizes their constitutional rights to gather peacefully and contribute generously to the community, expressing their willingness to take full responsibility to maintain order.

To ease the tension, this group offers to modify the celebration by replacing the public road segment and music with humanitarian visits to hospitals, internal refugee camps (IDP), and correctional facilities. However, security officials reject alternative plans, quoting a lack of previous notification and approval.
Without the resolution achieved, the group announced the suspension of the program.
“Considering the interest of our principal and the need to preserve peace in Kaduna on this important day, we have decided to suspend this program,” Danbaki said.
This group urged its members to observe that day calmly by staying indoors and giving prayers for Peter Obi and the nation in general. While stated the suspicion that the step might be politically motivated, they reiterated their commitment to non -violence.
“We believe this situation is connected with the increasing popularity of our headmaster and efforts to silence the sound of opposition,” the statement said. “But our principal’s commitment to peace and order is more important for us and must take precedence.”
Previously, the Kaduna State Police Command officially issued a warning so as not to hold the event, quoting an intelligence report which shows the possibility of disturbance by criminal elements. The police promised to take legal action against each individual or group found against the direction.
