The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has given the three weeks of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL) to respond to the questions raised to countless N210 trillion.
The Federation Auditor-General Office (OAUGF), in an audit report from 2017 to 2023, accused that NNPCL could not take into account the funds.
The committee led by Senator Ahmed Wadada, however, insisted that the amount in question was not stolen or did not exist, but had not been calculated.
The committee gave a three -week window for an explanation after receiving the NNPCL Group executive head, Bayo Ojulari’s apology for failed to appear before parliamentary members.
Ojulari, after his apology to the committee, said he needed more time to explore technical and perspective of the problem to provide a satisfying response to the 19 questions raised in the audit report.
He said: “I am only more than 100 days in the office as NNPCL GCEO. I still need time to dig further, given the perspective that I hear now about the problem.
“This will come during a very large national assignment, your explanation is now changing my perspective on the problem.
“I need to understand my own problems so that I can respond appropriately. I will get a team, and ask for details correctly so that we can work to give answers to questions.
“In doing this, I will definitely involve external auditors and other related groups.”
Although he asked for four weeks, the committee gave him three weeks, which, according to him, was enough for the expected response from NNPCL.
In his words, the wadada said the countless N210 trillion was in two components of the N103 trillion obligation and N107 trillion assets.
“There is no from 18 or 19 questions we have about NNPCL from us as a committee, also not from the executive or judiciary.
“They are questions extracted from the audited financial statements from NNPCL by auditors that include 2017 to 2023.
“Also, this committee does not, at any time, says the N210 trillion in question, as far as questions, is stolen or lost.
“What the committee did was the investigation needed on the questions raised in the report, in line with its constitutional mandate.
“Therefore, the Committee gave a three -week NNPCL to continue the written response to all of 19 questions, after that Gceo will be invited together with other management staff for physical appearance and defense,” he said.
