Once again, CAF increases the Women AFCON prize money

The Confederation of African Football has increased the prize money for winners of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by 100 percent, increasing it from $1 million to $2 million.

This is the second time CAF has collected prize money in a year, coming just days before WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, where 16 teams will compete in an expanded tournament for the first time in the competition’s history.

Morocco will again host the tournament from July 25 to August 16, using two cities, Rabat and Casablanca.

A year later, the overall prize fund increased by 67 percent, from $3.475 million to $5.8 million.

Second place will now receive $750,000, which is a 50 percent increase, while the prize money for the third-place team has increased by 43 percent.

Each of the 16 participating teams will also receive participation funds of $150,000, an increase of $25,000 (20 percent) from the $125,000 received in the previous edition.

“Since the current CAF leadership took office, the winner’s prize money has increased by 900 percent from $200,000 to $2 million and the total prize money has increased by 495 percent from $975,000 to $5.8 million,” CAF said in a statement released on its website on Wednesday.
