A prominent political figure and callingor of the Premier United Movement, Hon. (Chapter) Olalekan A. Shoyinka (popularly known as Ayinla Egba), praised the commitment of President Ahmed Tinubu to gratify the sports champions of Nigeria, urging the administration to support and expand the policy of “renewed hope” in all sectors.
Reacting to the recent victory of the women’s basketball team of Nigeria, D’Tigress, who conquered their fifth consecutive FIBA Afrobasket, Shoyinka, said that the President’s rapid message of congratulations and undertake to host the Signs Signs a new era of national pride and intentional leadership.
Shoyinka has designed parallels between the tenth celebration of the Wafcon title of Super Falcons – which attracted cash prizes, national honors and owned gifts of $ 100,000 – and the current public anticipation that surrounds what D’Unigress will receive.
“Nothing is too much to reward excellence,” he said. “Gratifying champions are not expensive, it is an investment in the values and future of a nation”.
Shoyinka stressed that the gestures of President Tinubu should not be perceived as simple political optics, but as a conscious moral directive to inspire a generation that is increasingly attracted by the pomp of social media and quick money patterns.
“Nigeria has a desperate need for role models. By celebrating excellence in sport, let’s tell our youth that talent, hard work and discipline still pay in this country,” he said.
He claimed that sports offer a rare moment of unity and healing in a deeply polarized and economically tense society. “For a few moments, the sports victories allow the Nigerians to forget their pains and rejoice together. That joy is priceless.”
Citing the abandonment of the legendary athletes of the 90s who brought international glory but were abandoned later, Shoyinka said that the Tinubu administration has now the opportunity to correct historical injustices.
“The cost of neglecting excellence is much greater than any reward we give today,” he warned.
Shoyinka also urged state governors and local government authorities not to leave the burden of the recognition of talents to the federal government only. He asked for basic investments in sports through school athletics programs and community -based competitions.
“A successful athlete can raise an entire family from poverty. Imagine what hundreds could do for our communities,” he added.
During the praise of attention on sport, Shoyinka also claimed to extend the reward framework to sectors such as education, technology and creative industries, observing that national size lies in identifying and promoting excellence through disciplines.
“Let every young Nigerian know that if you build a robot, write a revolutionary thesis or win a fair of science, you too will be honored by your country,” he urged.
He concluded by asking the president Tinubu to conduct the initiative of “renewed hope” as a lasting legacy that defines his administration.
“Once John F. Kennedy said:” A nation turns out to be not only by the men he produces but also by the men who honor “. This policy reveals a president who wants Nigeria to reward the merit, not mediocrity,” he said.
