Political tensions in the state of Ogun intensified while the administration of the governor Dapo Inhabitun has issued notices of abandonment and demolition on several properties related to the former governor and the service of the senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, arousing accusations of political persecution before the government of the government of 2027.
On Friday 8 August, according to what reported, the government agents took over “notices of violation” and “notices” on the temptular court of Asoludero di Daniel in Sagamu, the Conference Hotel Limited, Sagamu and the Hotel Annex – all the properties belonging to the former governor.
According to a declaration of the Ogd Media Office, signed by Steve Oliyide, the move represents “an abuse of harmful and vindictive power aimed at silent a political rival.
The declaration accused the inhaboun administration of retroactively applying the state law of urban and regional planning of the state of Ogun n. 61 of 2022 to the buildings built years before the existence of the law.
“The Asoludero court was built in 2004, the Conference Hotel in 2013 and the attachment in 2015. To affirm now that they are missing permits is ridiculous”, reads the note.
“This is political persecution dressed as urban renewal”.
Daniel’s field also connected the latest notices to the controversial demolition of Datkem Plaza in September 2023 in the Ode Ijebu – a property owned by Daniel’s wife – who is still the subject of litigation in progress.
They said that current notices violate the right trial, simultaneously issuing the violation and demolition threats without the legally requested intervals.
The Times platform learned that the disagreement between inhabitants and Daniel, rooted in political differences despite the affiliation of the shared party, intensified as a result of a notice to stop issued on one of the properties of Daniel – a suspension of the insiders was sanctioned by the governor.
Sources have revealed that some Loalists of Inhabitun support the move, observing it as a strategic control over Daniel in view of the 2027 elections, while others within the field privately criticize the decision.
The rift comes in a moment sensitive for the party to power, with an electoral section looming in their shared senatorial district.
In the APC, fears emerged that Daniel could discreetly support the candidate of the PDP of the opposition, potentially undermining the governor’s political influence in the region.
Observers say that the last development could be a subtle warning to Daniel to realize the governor’s political agenda.
However, the state government of Ogun rejected the accusations as false, describing Daniel’s statements as “clear distortions of facts”.
On Saturday, in a counter-state, the government said that the notices were part of an urban renewal at the state level and development audit that covers the booking areas of the Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu (Gras) government and not aimed at Daniel alone.
“The property of Otunba Gbenga Daniel seems to be within the Sagamu Gra and is among the different structures that have received notices as part of a routine audit”, reads the note.
“This process also existed during his mandate as governor.”
The government explained that the audit aims to verify the state of the permit of existing developments in the Gras, adding that many other properties, including commercial buildings, schools and hospitals, have been affected in the same way.
Political observers, however, say that development is intended to increase the political rivalries between the two fields while the 2027 elections approach.
Daniel, a former two -terms governor, is a key political figure in Ogun East and a power broker perceived in state succession policy.
At the time of the press, it is not clear if the demolition would proceed on Monday as indicated in the notices, but Daniel’s field has promised to challenge the action through the legal channels.
