Trips of London: Lawal avoided the victims of the massacre of Kaura Namoda, returned only for the campaign – CSO

A coalition of civil society organizations condemned the governor of the state of Zamfara Dauda Lawal for abandoning the victims of the massacre of Kaura Namoda to participate in a party in London.

They have the CSO said they came back only weeks later for political campaigns.

In a declaration signed by his call, Abdulmalik Namoda, the group described the governor’s decision to go to Kaura Namoda for a PDP demonstration as “a slap in front of every suffering soul in the state of Zamfara.

“Barely weeks ago, he turned his back on the same people who now claims to represent,” he read the statement.

Blueprint reports that on July 28, 2025, over 38 men, women and children were killed in cold blood by armed bandits in the local government of Kaura Namoda. The attack arrived just one day after the criminals had collected a ransom of ₦ 50 million from the community.

He said: “In the wake of the massacre, the residents expected a quick action, condolences and a personal visit from their governor.

“Instead, Lawal traveled to London with his helpers to participate in his son’s degree ceremony.

“While the inhabitants of the village have buried their dead, they counted their losses and fled their homes, the governor was photographed smiling in events abroad. No official visit was made to the affected communities, no delegation was sent and no clear level was announced to face the crisis”.

He explained that Kaura Namoda has long faced a worsening of safety. Entire communities have been displaced, the agricultural land have destroyed and the burned houses.

“In the village of Jimrawa, the residents fled after the bandits razed their homes. The inhabitants of the displaced villages marched towards Gusau in search of help, where they were guaranteed by the rapid action by the governor’s spokesman, Mustafa Jafaru Kaura.”

According to the CSO, those promises have never materialized. When the inhabitants of the village returned to protest against their abandonment, presumably they did not meet with safety reinforcements, but with the criminals hired that broke their manifestation.

“Now, the expected return of the governor to Kaura Namoda – this time to look for votes – fueled the anger among the supporters of the locals and the rights.

“People must ask themselves: what kind of leader abandon his people at the time of the greatest need, just to return for the votes?” The CSOs said.
