The military denied the report on the delivery of terror leader Bello Turji, insisted he was still desirable

The Headquarters of Defense (DHQ) has rejected the widespread media report that claims that the famous Kingpin Terrorist, Bello Turji, has surrendered to the authorities.

Turji, for a long time was accused of managing deadly attacks throughout Zamfara, Kebbi, and parts of the state of Katsina, remained in general.

Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, made a military position clearly: “Bandit leader, Bello Turji, has not given up. We are still on his way. So he is still sought by the military.”

The rebuttal occurred after a prominent Islamic scholar, Asadus-Sunnah, told a religious meeting in Kaduna on Monday that Turji had released 32 kidnapped victims and promised to stop the attack on farmers. According to Ulama, this followed several meetings at Zamfara Turji’s hiding place involving Islamic leaders and other armed group commanders.

He accused that as part of the peace process, Turji had handed over several weapons and reached an agreement to allow farmers who were not blocked by access to their land in the Shinkafi Regional Government.

“We met Mr. Turji, and Bakkolo, Black, Kanawa, and Ila Night. Speculation that and Bakkolo were killed incorrectly. These people are people who terrorize Axis, and they all approve of peace proposals, one of which is to hand over some of their weapons to show commitment to the peace process.

“They handed over their arms in three phases at different times, and allowed Shinkafi residents to access their agriculture in the forest across the river to the pockets of Turji. We agree that Fulani must be allowed to go to the city without being detected or killed by vigilante.

“He (Mr. Turji) also freed 32 prisoners who were kidnapped as part of the peace agreement,” said the ulama, added that he had video evidence of the prisoners released and the terrain that led to the Turji camp.

Apart from this claim, Major General Kangye insisted Turji remained the person sought: “Bello Turji is still sought by the Nigerian military.”

In another problem, Kangye also rejected Amnesty International’s report recently accused the extra-judicial murder by troops in the southeast.

“That is not true. The military did not commit extra-judicial murder in the southeast. The armed forces could not mobilize troops to protect the people and troops changed the same weapons to kill the people. Amnesty International likes this. So the military is not involved in murder outside the law in the southeast East,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Defense Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, discussed concerns over the welfare of retired military personnel. He confirmed that after a recent protest by a former soldier, Defense Chief of Staff, General CG Musa, had met with the committee standing five people about the welfare of Veterans to develop plans to overcome extraordinary benefits.
