The Sport of the Sport of the State of Imo Hon Evaristus Obinna Onyeocha (Onowu) has highlighted some progress in sports under the current administration.
He revealed them in an interactive session with the members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) IMO State Chapter in his office at the State Secretariat Port Harcourt Road Owerri.
The Commissioner said that the recent reception by the Governor of the State of the 7 State Super Falcons players was a testimony to demonstrate that the state could soon resume his lost glory as a home for sport in the country.
He also said that 2 of the players of the national women’s basketball team (d ‘Tigress) come from the IMO state with one of them as the team captain.
He also explained that during the elimination of the Youth games last year held in Enugu, the state youth team won 9 gold medals of the 14 medals available with the hope of reaching the same or more in the first national games of Youth in Asaba from ASABA from August 2025.
Onyeocha also said that the queens of the heart will soon resume training in preparation for the new season and are scheduled to involve new players who will help to strengthen the team.
He also said that the Heartland Queens field has been renewed and wearing a new look in favor of the team.
The sports commissioner that the Heartland Feers team is going well in the current tournament La Liga, as well as in the U19 state team as he expresses his joy for the new face of the Dan Anyiam Stadium with street lamps in every corner of the stadium.
