Faan distanced himself from the handling of IBOM air passenger incidents at Lagos Airport

The Federal Nigerian Airport Authority (FAAN) has distanced itself from the initial handling of incidents involving female passengers, Comfort Emmanson, at the Murtala Muhammated 2 (MM2) Airport Terminal, Lagos, last week.

In a statement issued on Friday, Faan clarified that its personnel were not involved in the early stages of the incident, which occurred in the terminal operated by the Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.

The quarrel, which involved Emmanson and Ibom Air staff at the foot of a plane, had triggered widespread anger among Nigerians, many of which condemned what they described as passenger deehization.

According to Faan, security operations in MM2 are under the internal security jurisdiction of IBOM Air and the Bi-Courtney flight security unit, given that the facility is managed personally.

“The MM2 Terminal is classified as a limited area of private tenants. Avsec faan officers are responsible for passengers and baggage playback at the designated examination post, while the general terminal security operation is handled by the Bi-Courtney security team,” the authority said.

Faan explained that the flight security personnel (AVSEC) were only involved after Emmanson was moved to the crime investigation and intelligence unit, known as “Tango City,” for documentation before he was handed over to the Nigerian police for prosecution.

Authority reiterates its commitment to professionalism and regulatory compliance, noting that the training and re -training of AVSEC officers remain a priority.

“Faan remains committed to the ongoing training and re -training of our AVSEC officers. Only institutions certified by NCAA are authorized to conduct training related to certification for flight personnel,” the statement said.
