Suspend the increase in the planned salary for public officers, political scientists say to RMAFC

The Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA) asked for the suspension of the plan to increase the remuneration of the owners of public offices in the country.

The Association that made known on the weekend of a controversial question in a declaration by its president, prof. Hassan Saliu asked for the suspension of the wages planned for the owners of public offices.

“The proposal to increase the remuneration of the owners of public offices in Nigeria, supported by the allocation of the mobilization of the revenue and the tax commission (RMMAFC), is a controversial question, in particular in the light of the prevailing economic challenges that face the citizen, essentially derived from the low level of productivity in the country, among other factors”, said Scaliu.

He argued that while the inflationary trend and the period spent from the last wage review in the public sector conducted by the government in 2008 could justify a wage increase, the times and the national mood make the proposal incongruous.

He observed that most of the Nigerian public workers are struggling with the lean minimum wage of N70, 000 while many are uncertain on their next meal.

He recommended that: “A more effective approach would be to extend the increase in incremental salary already approved for the judges to other professional groups, such as members of the university of academic staff (Asuu), whose new remuneration to be brought home has not been agreed by the public owners of the universities. Nigeria.”

Salu added that: “Furthermore, any discussion on the wage increases for the owners of political offices must consider the global reward regime, including the allowances that often exceed salaries. The basic remuneration of 1.5 million naira per month for one of the most paid public officials in the country may seem modest, but the burden of the state in supporting such an office extends beyond the salary.
