Nigeria beats Ghana in five-set thriller at African Volleyball Championship

Nigeria’s senior men’s volleyball team claimed a thrilling victory over arch-rival Ghana in a dramatic five-set West African derby at the 2026 African Senior Nations Volleyball Championship in Kenya.

The Nigerians fought an intense contest before finally triumphing 3-2, winning 25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 11-25, 18-16 in a thrilling final set.

Nigeria started strongly to take the first set 25-21, but Ghana responded immediately, leveling the match after taking the second set 25-21.

The Nigerian team regained control in the third set, dominating 25-11, only for Ghana to force a decider with a convincing 25-11 victory in the fourth.

With everything at stake, both teams played out a tense and close fifth set. Nigeria finally held their nerve to win 18-16 and claim a memorable victory in the West African derby.

The result leaves Nigeria second in Group C, whose final group game will face Cameroon on Thursday.

Nigeria will hope to maintain their momentum and achieve another positive result as they continue their campaign in Kenya.
