NPFL Match Day 2: Insurance, Shooke Stars Share points in Benin

Shared points were at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo State while Ibadan’s stars ensured their first point of the 2025/2026 championship season after the home team, insurance, forced them to a 1-1 Saturday draw.
Ismail Ayodele put the shooting stars in the 5th minute of the game before the insurance responded via Alex Oweilayefa in the 13th minute when both sides finished the first half -goal each.
It was, however, a second half tactic with both sides looking for the winner, while also looking for their best to not admit since the game ended 1-1.
While the Oluyole Warriors have lost their first game of the season at home against Bayelsa United, the away point will put them in good shape before the next home game against Ikorodu City.
In the meantime, the games continue on Sunday in various centers with teams that want to maintain a solid position on the table.
The champions, Remo Stars, will also try to claim their first victory of the season after 1-1 tie at home in Rivers United in the first game of the season. The owners of the title will have to face the new arrivals, Kun Khalifat FC at the Enyimba stadium in ABA, who have adopted as a home land due to the renewal of Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Ikorodu City started their season with a 0-0 draw at Kwara United despite having equipped NPFL debutants and a new coach to Ali Kandil after Awerroro departure to the deployed stars. Ikorodu City is now formed for their first home game against El-Kanemi Warriors in the first game on Sunday evening this season at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan in Lagos. El-Kanemi, on the other hand, started with a 2-0 victory over home insurance.
During the opening round of the season, the great boys found difficult to eliminate the results and this time they will have to do it in front of their supporters, otherwise the pressure begins to accumulate from here on. Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Plateau United and Rivers United play on Sunday against Niger’s Tornadoes, Wikki tourists, Katsina United and Cup owners, Kwara United, respectively.
All four clubs hope to play home to get their first victories of the season.
