It was a day of faith, culture and heartfelt tributes in the Catholic Church of Santa Charles, Enyiogwugwu, about Mbaise Lga, as family, friends, clergy, traditional sovereigns and supporters gathered in their number to say goodbye to the late Signor Festus Nnodim ndunaka.
The premises were full of cars and activities, drawing questions from passers -by. The answer was simple but profound: “The father of Rev. Fr. Ulonna is put at rest today”.
The funeral mass was chaired by the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Ahiara, most of the Rev. Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, who described the deceased Mr Festus Nnodim Ndunaka as a man who lived well and urged the family to endure their loss with force.
In his homily, Rev. P. Prof. Philip Igbo recalled the congregation of Christian hope of resurrection, testifying that the deceased was not only a dedicated teacher and a commercial farmer, who recovered the cattle including pigs – but also a man who raised a united and successful family.
“The Bible assures us that those who are stopped in faith until the end will receive the reward. Both life and death belong to God,” he preached.
Parish, Rev. P. Celestino Ekenia, thanked the Bishop and all present, prayed for safe travels and announced the remaining burial programs.
His first child, Rev. P. Stanley Ulonna Ndunaka – Rettore of Enyiogwugwu Training of the spiritual year of the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara Mbaise, now in studies abroad – has delivered an emotional vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude for the bishop, the clergy, the religious sisters, the classmates, the seminarians, the traditional sovereigns, the teachers, the parishioners and friends of all the Mbaise and beyond.
At a touching moment, he thanked his mother for years of care dedicated to his father during his illness, as well as his brothers for their unity and support.
Born in 1951, the deceased Mr. Festus Ndunaka attended St. Charles Primary School, the secondary school of the Amuzi community, TTC and the Michael Okpara College of Agriculture, Umuagwo. He taught at the school of the Umboara and Emeabiam community, complete secondary school, among others.
A devoted Catholic member and committed to the organization Catholic Men (CMO), was married to Mrs. Adaku Fidelia Ndunaka (born Iroegbu) and Benedetto with seven sons – two sons and five daughters – including Rev. Fr. Ulonna.
In his tribute, p. Ulonna described her father as “kind, wise, humble, disciplined and compassionate”.
After the burial, the complex of Mr. Ndunaka, who was adorned with his flexible banners, saw priests, religious, cultural dancers and community groups that celebrated him with music, prayers and colorful manifestations: a reflection of the impact of a man who left not only a family, but a heredity.
