Over 20 million Nigerians registered in health insurance – NHIA …

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) claims to have enrolled over 20 million Nigerians in the health insurance regime throughout Nigeria.

Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, zonal coordinator of the north central area who includes Kwara, Niger and Kogi, revealed it in an interview with the Nigeria (Nan) news agency in Ilorin.

He explained that the forum aimed to illuminate the public on authority’s policies to guarantee the best practices, noting that the current reforms are oriented towards optimal health delivery in Nigeria.

He said the policies were oriented to the achievement of universal health coverage (Uch) by 2030.

According to him, Nigeria turns to register 44 million people, allowing them to access the delivery of health care at affordable prices.

“We are illuminating the interested parties on the increase in rates. Nhia is guaranteeing efficiency through the quality of the provision of services.

“We are increasing the rate in terms of capita; there is also an increase in taxes for the service,” he said.

He declared that the share of capita was previously N750, but now it is at N1.450 for each life recorded in the context of health insurance.

Abdullahi also revealed that the authority has increased the accreditation standards and re -credited to align with current requests, despite the challenges.

According to him, these reforms were part of the activities of the current management guided by dr. Kelechi Ohiri, general manager of Nhia.

He said that President Bola Tinubu had made the registration for health insurance for all citizens to ensure that the Nigerians have access to quality health care.

“We are working to guarantee a drug without drugs, under the Nhia Medicine initiative.

“We will have drugs with the NICE brand that our subscribers can easily access,” he said.

Abdullahi also stated that to ensure that members do not face difficulties when accessing services, the federal government has introduced the “reference authorization code of one hour”.

He explained that this would ensure that the waiting time is reduced for members when they need refester from primary to secondary health.

Speaking also, the state coordinator, the office of Nia Kwara, Hajiya Idayat Bello-Eleitan expressed fingers for the introduction of the new intervention programs.

He listed part of the intervention to include the complete program of obstetric care and emergency infants (Cemonc), designed to face the five main causes of maternal mortality in Nigeria.

According to her, some of these causes are: hemorrhage, preeclampsia, sepsis, post-abortion complications and obstructed labor.

He said other programs include the Fistula Free (FFP) NHIA program and the HIV-AIDS (DRT) Tuberculosis Tuberculosis.

“These programs are crucial in reducing universal health coverage and align with the renewed agenda of hope in the health sector as directed by the president,” he said.

Olaitan has revealed that the authority is starting “mysterious shopping”, a monitoring and evaluation exercise conducted by the NHIA officials.

He said: “The government is committed to ensuring that members do not suffer at the point of accessing services.

“This is also to impose all the health facilities that give the right treatment to all members. We ask that there is a guarantee of quality in all health facilities,” he said.
