New Brighton winger Femi Azeez, who made his debut for Nigeria during the Unity Cup summer friendly tournament, has been cleared for his competitive debut for Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Azeez made an instant impression for Nigeria with a brace against Zimbabwe in the semi-final and an assist in the win over Jamaica in the final, helping Nigeria defend the Unity Cup.
After moving from Millwall to Brighton, a knock prevented him from making his debut, putting his participation with Nigeria in the AFCON qualifiers in doubt.
Yesterday, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler confirmed that he is now among his available options for Sunday’s English Premier League match against Coventry City.
The coach said: “Also regarding him (Azeez), I hope he is an option. He will definitely train with the team today and hopefully everything will be good and then he will be an option for the weekend.”
